Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco (born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco) is an American and Canadian music producer and singer. Her work has been released on over 20 albums. Her music is classified by DiFranco as alternative rock, folk rock, and has hints of jazz and hip-hop. Widely considered a feminist icon Grammy winner Ani DiFranco has been referred to as the "mother" of the DIY movement. She was one of the first musicians to launch her own label 1990. DiFranco was the child of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They came together at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian descent, and her mother was from Montreal. Ani diFranco wrote and sang the track 32 Flavors. This song appears on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. The song is featured on the movie soundtrack of the 1999 Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco acknowledged her apology in 2013, when it became known she was hosting the three-day event on one of the Louisiana ex-slave plantation. The workshop was cancelled, but she didn't show any regret. DiFranco issued a further apology just a few days later. While she's been referred to by the name of Little Folksinger her music spans many genres and collaborators ranging between Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. She is a resident of New Orleans. Ani DiFranco resides with Kristen Ford. She began writing songs at the age of 14 years old. They were performed in bars and cafes throughout her teens. DiFranco was a graduate of the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school in the year 16 and began attending classes at Buffalo State College.
