Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American Canadian singer and songwriter. She has released more than 20 albums. DiFranco classifies her music as folk-rock or alternative, but it also has influences from punk, hip-hop and jazz. Ani DiFranco, widely regarded as an icon of women's rights and Grammy-winning artist is considered to be the first founder of DIY music. It was one of the very first musicians to start her own label in the year 1990. DiFranco was a born on 23rd September 1970 in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Dante Americo DiFranco. Her father was Italian descent and her mother was originally from Montreal. Ani diFranco wrote and performed the track 32 Flavors. It is a track from her album Not a Pretty Girl, that was her sixth studio release. This track appears on the film's soundtrack the Canadian romantic drama Better Than Chocolate from 1999. In 2013, DiFranco apologized after it was revealed that she would be hosting a three-day workshop at a former Louisiana plantation for slaves. Although she cancelled the workshop, many people (including the authors of our article) didn't feel any regret. DiFranco released a second apology two days following the first. In the span of 14 months, DiFranco was already writing her own lyrics. She continued to perform them in bar and cafes during her teens. DiFranco was a student at Buffalo State College after graduating aged 16 from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. The new guitar Ani is a custom Alvarez made after several consultations between her myself as well as Chrys Johnson, who was the artist rep for Alvarez when the guitar was made. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 amp and is all made from solid woods. This includes an ebony-top cedar body, and sides with an ebony-fretboard. She is at her home in New Orleans with her husband, two children, and Lefty the dog with a long leash who wanders into out of sight when we speak. A decade into her career DiFranco admits she has mixed feelings about looking in the rearview. Ani DiFranco achieved her musical iconic status as a songwriter/singer and punk/folk at the age 25 both with the public and critics, when she released Not A Pretty Girl.
