Coleman is a native of Blackpool Lancashire. Coleman attended Arnold School in Blackpool where she was head of the school and scored straight A's in her A-levels. When discussing her Emmerdale appearance Coleman confessed she was regretting that she did not go to university. Coleman, while still at High School, was a student of a theatrical company called In Yer Space. They performed the play Crystal Clear for the Edinburgh Festival. Her performance was well-received with a prestigious award, and the production received positive reviews. Coleman was given the part as Jasmine Thomas at Emmerdale while auditioning in drama schools in 2005. Coleman was nominated twice in 2007. She was named as the Best Newcomer of 2007 at British Soap Awards and Most Popular Newcomer at the National Television Awards. In 2009, the British Soap Awards 2009 nominated Coleman in categories: Best Actress - Sexiest Feminine and Best Dramatic Performance category. Coleman received a nomination for Best Actress from the TV Choice Awards. Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman, who had replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor since Arthur Darvill left the series she would play the role alongside Matt Smith. Moffat chose her for the role due to her ability to work most effectively with Smith and was able to talk more quickly than him. Her work has been much prominent on TV than in films. Eva is well-known for her roles as the character Dr. Maria Santos on All My Children and detective Natalia Boa Vistas from CSI Miami. The actress was nominated 2 "Daytime Emmys" for her first part as well as having the a chance explore her musical creativity. Eva as well as acting as an actress, is a philanthropist, businesswoman and entrepreneur. She has been married three times who has a daughter from her second husband.
